Bhimkund History

Bhimkund is associated with the Pandava prince Bhima, one of the central characters from the Indian epic Mahabharata. It is believed that during their exile, the Pandavas visited Chikhaldara and Bhima, known for his immense strength, created a kund (a pond) by striking the ground with his mace (gada), resulting in the formation of Bhimkund. It is said that Bhima used the water from Bhimkund to defeat a demon named Keechaka, who was harassing the local people.

How to reach Bhimkund ?

Bhimkund is very well connected by road. You can drive your vehicle near to the waterfall. Bhimkund waterfall is located in outskirts of Chikhaldara town. Once you reach Chikhaldara, you can easily visit Chikhaldara. No trekking in required to visit Bhimkund. Children and elderly also can easily visit Bhimkund.

The origin of Bhimkund is a mythological tale associated with the Pandavas from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. It is said that during their exile, the Pandavas passed through this region and Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, created this kund or pool of water by striking the ground with his mace. The name Bhimkund literally means “Bhima’s pool” and it is considered a sacred spot by Hindus.

You need to reach Chikhaldara first to reach Bhimkund Waterfall. You can choose Amravati Railway station (AMI), Badnera (BD), Betul (BZU) railway stations, then get taxi or bus to reach Chikhaldara. 

Bhimkund is located at Chikhaldara in Melghat Tiger Reserve of Amravati district.
